I wasn't that drunk last night was I?

My friend Dan's birthday was yesterday and his band Dark Days Tribe was playing. I heard them play their first show down in Downtown San Bernardino and they were really good then. So I was looking forward to seeing what they had done in the last couple months.

Originally I had offered to drive with Christine and Christoph.
Since bar whisky is too damn expensive, started out the evening downing a couple shots with Christoph at home.

So we make it out to Corona and pick up Mike who still wasn't home yet. So he shows up and changes quick. Then over to Angles Sports Bar. Another quick round of bourbon for the party and a couple of pitchers of beer. The first band is set up and start into their first song. "FUCK THIS SHIT!" What followed was about 45 seconds of hard thrash. That was the first song. Their entire set was about 15 minutes long and I think they played 20 different songs. It got the crowd into a raucaus rocking feel.

Then DDT took the stage and they had the crowd worked up into a Death Metal frenzy. We were chanting, calling out songs, screaming their praises, and the band took it like pros. They if anything had gotten their sound even tighter and the music was balanced. Then we sang Dan Happy Birthday and he took the mike and did a song singing the lead.

When the set was done we all wondered outside to unwind, we were:
     Bear
    Candace
Christine
Christoph
Cole
Gillebon

    James
    Jennifer
    John
    Kim
    Libby
    Lindsey
    Mark
    Mike
    Nick
Ote

(If I've forgotten someone, or you have a website I don't know about, please share!)

Mark tells us, since he works there, he can get us into the topless bar for free. So we all agree. Sitting in a topless bar with my friends and the girls rubbing up against their boyfriends or whatever was quite a fun time. Drinking more beer straight from the pitcher just added to the entertainment. About an hour goes by and we are driving home, drunk dialing all of Christine's phone book. I'm sure her friends and family are quite concerned.

All in all a very very fun time.

Currently reading:
A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 2)
By George R.R. A medical vocational school in the L.A. area. The reason I'm a T.A. and not an instructor is I need my certification... It's pending. Ok, now on with the fun:

The program is divided into 4 sections. Anatomy and Phisiology, Didactic (book learning), Procedures (hands on) and a Clinical Rotation. Each section is taught by a different teacher. I'm helping out with the third section, Procedures.

Today some Didactic students got into a loud verbal fight regarding the speaking of Espanol in the classroom. Seems the students (ADULTS!) who don't speak Spanish are thinking the students (ADULTS!) who do speak Spanish are using it to talk smack and or cheat w/o anyone catching on. This argument has been going on since I was attending there. It was quickly quelled by their instructor (who is bilingual.)

Thirty minutes or so go by and the receptionist calls me to transfer in the 911 call. Seems one of the students in Didacticwas having extreme gastric distress and they called 911. The dispatcher tells me to elevate his feet, and lay him on his left side. Basic treatment for shock and nausea. Fine no problem. I check on him and find him in the back of his car, moaning, incoherent and sweating bullets. I help him roll onto his side and tell him an ambulance is coming. (Big Eyes!) Further moans and a glazed look on his eyes. Now at this point another student decides to take him down the street to the E.R. since it's been 15 minutes since 911 was called. They take off. I wait for the Paramedics who shake their heads and said, "Yup, it was quicker to take him yourself."

So, couple hours go by and I see the girl who took him to the E.R. Here's our exchange:

Me: "How's Mr. S?
Her: ::Rolls Eyes::
Me: "What happened?"
Her: "He got admitted, waiting to be transferred to a bed, and his wife shows up and tells him to come on home. Remembering my first car. 1971 VW Transporter. Two seats and nothing else. No roof. But lots of space. In fact that was the car I was driving when I first met Mouse. Alot of my friends rode in that bus. Some of you have your own stories about it. I know I have many a story. First night I spent with my then girlfriend, now wife, was in that bus. Blew a tire, didn't have a spare. Fell asleep in the back waiting for the tow truck driver.

::Raises Glass High::

To our first taste of freedom. The people know who it involves. Last night went to the Paradise bar on Broadway. It's just down the street from the new apartment of my friends. They go Thursdays to sing Karaoke. The paradise is a great art deco style bar with an attached restaurant.

The Karaoke was above par. Only one person was relying on Mr. Jack Daniels to be his back up singer. Everyone else had a great voice. Now Paradise is a gay bar and at one point a love song was dedicated to the bartender Kevin, who's boyfriend I was told is the owner of the Paradise.

Well, my friends were drinking pretty heavy, since they can walk a block to get home. I was driving so I had coffee.

At the end of the night I was informed that the female portion of our trio was "REALLY DRUNK" and wanted to go home. I volunteered to make sure she got back home safe and sound, her boyfriend was also drunk and networking with someone.

Get her home, NO HOUSE KEYS! So we sit and wait... At which point I was told that I'm the best and that she really loves me. Aww Drunk Love(r). Then a deep down bottom of the stomach belch comes out of her mouth. Ahha! I know what's next. Let's move this to the curb. After a short conversation with RALF. Boyfriend shows up, and I wind up with the house keys. Get her in bed. I have the keys, he's outside the complex somewhere and won't be able to get back in. I wait. At which point the girl decides she needs to puke some more. So I'm waiting on their couch and BLAM the girl is in the hallway rembering that gravity works and walls can break your fall and your neck. Help her to the toilet. More chats with RALF. I let the boyfriend back in, he tags me out. I'm talking to another girl who came in with the boyfriend. So we chat a bit. Another crash and she checks on em... Performs the dead baby test. OUT COLD both of them!

Since it's 2 A.M. and I have to be up in 2 hours. I drive home. Get ready for bed and remember, I FORGOT TO CREATE THE TEST FOR THE TEST IN 4 HOURS! Shit... Another hour and I'm sleeping.

4:30 was not a happy time to drive the wife to work. Especially cuz we (narrowly) missed the corpse of a dead skunk.

Next post. My day at work. More fun to follow.

Currently reading:
The Weapon (Freehold War)
By Michael Z. I can stay home and movies come to me. Plus I can watch movies that I missed the first time around. Movies that I didn't know existed. Velvet Goldmine as the opening dialogue states: "Although this is a work of fiction. It should still be played at maximum volume." I whole heartedly agree. It's a rock opera. A rock opera based in a alternate reality that split off from ours about the time the Beatles broke up.

The soundtrack is amazing. The other worldliness was a good touch. Take The Wall mate it with Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Remove the non sequiturs from the wall add the sexuality of Hedwig and you get their love child: Velvet Goldmine.

Do you like Glam Rock? Watch this movie and head the advice to play it at maximum volume.

9 Stars (not a perfect 10, cuz Bowie refused to add to the soundtrack.)

Currently watching:
Velvet Goldmine

Friday Nights Alright:

Friday Nights Alright

A great big thank you to Christine

Friday night was spent in Santa Monica. First off saw Henry Rollins at McCabes Guitar Store

I've seen _Live at Luna Park_ and I've heard quite a bit of his spoken word recordings, thanks to working with Jefe. But this was the first time seeing him live and in person. I was really excited to see him. But getting from Long Beach to Santa Monica on a Friday night with Brenna, Christene, Christoph and Leon (a friend of Christoph's) was a bit of an experience. So we ended up getting there right at curtain going up. Didn't really miss anything but had to hunt for seats in a dark theater. McCabes is small, like 60 people max small. But a great intimate setting to see a performance. He was just as good as I hoped. Talked about his hatred of George W, Sean Hannity, the current crop of Neo-Cons, his trip across Siberia on the Trans Siberian Express, saying the final goodbyes to a friend, being in movies, cell phone ettiquite, all stuff that I've never heard before. Really entertaining and engaging. Get some of his stuff and your gonna laugh out loud.

After the show we all went to Plan B, a bikini strip club in Santa Monica, just down the street on Pico. I dunno, I wasn't feeling like the dancers were into being there. They kinda half gyrated to the beat and got off the stage after one song each. Plus we were there to hang out, and our table female to male ratio was extremely high. Let's see, before we left there was 7 girls and 5 guys. Everyone also agreed that the waitress was way hotter than any of the dancers.

So in all:

Henry Rollins: 9.5 stars, (the half star was because the seats started to get uncomfortable.)

Plan B: 5 stars. Very nice club, very bored dancers.

Currently reading:
We Few
By David Weber
Release date: By 01 April, 2005

The Zoo

San Diego Zoo

Tuesday we took a trip to the Zoo. You view a person's blog for X seconds and you earn credits for your site to move up the ladder of when it gets it's own hit.

Dunno how well it works, but if your from Blog Explosion. Say HI!

Well, Friday was attack of the super fast doctors. Each case I did yesterday took longer to set up then it did to actually do the surgery.

It was crazy. First case took from when the doctor came in the door of the OR suite to when he left... 10 minutes! For a BTL (Bilateral Tubal Ligation,) Don't even know why they put her under for it. That just wasted time.

Oh well... Did you know that surgeons are paid by the case, now us Surgical Techs are paid hourly. No one bothered to tell this guy. Man oh man, Three hours! Three hours standing hunched over this:

(LOOK AWAY NOW LINDSEY!)

That is what it looks like when they cut behind your ear and pull it towards your nose. It's an odd thing... I forget it's a person under the drapes. Today I had to hold the patients head, he kept twitching. So I'm holding his head and I realize, oh, that's his eye my fingers are pushing down on. When I first started, I would have this empathic twinges... Thinking, owww that's gotta hurt. Now, not as much. Which is probably a good thing. Essentially, they wern't sure why the patient was in such pain, and needed to open her abdomen to find out.

Well, they found out. She had three softball size ovarian cysts.

They look like this:

Now I've never seen one before, (I'm only in my third week of actual hospital work,) and I wasn't sure what it was when they pulled the first one out of her body cavity. It looked like something very alien like. The surgeon couldn't find where it was attached to her insides so had to pop it. Out flowed stuff that looked just like hot chocolate. Now at this point I was concerned, I thought they had pierced the bowel which means instant infection. But then the anesthesiologist pipes up with, ah she eats to much chocolate. I've seen a lot of different surgeries so far, nothing has squeeked me out until now. My stomach went FLIP FLOP at that statement. But, I took a deep breath and forged ahead, and looking back now I think it was funny. All I want is to never have to faint or throw up in an Operating Room.

Strindberg and Helium:

Now, what could warm the hearts better than a flash cartoon about August Strindberg going about his trajic life with a Balloon sidekick named HELIUM!

Click on this link now!

Then go and slice your wrists, and this time
do it right!

Chute to kill

Great Britain Water Rides Contain Killer Bacteria

Ok, so how scary is this?

Have those people not heard of chlorine. Great... The way it was working was you were given a week of review for the final and the Professer would help you study with practice exams and what not. Made it easy to study for. Well we had several proffesers get fired and everyone scrambled to cover. So peoples review week was truncated majorly. So, they decided to go to the President of the School. So she hears the complaints especially how the director of the program is a racist. The director decides that it should never have been that way, (the extra practice exams,) and wants all new tests done for everybody. Oh Boy here we go. Frank took the new final 2 weeks ago and missed 89 out of 200. Whoops. So I'm stressing, but instead of studying... I'm sitting here watching Rug Rats and trying to edit my friend Lindsey's Harry Potter slash and posting to this blog. Well, if I fail, I fail. To think I missed out on a tour of the Pacific NW with chase to witness all of this.BLECH.

Lindsey's web page: http://home.earthlink.net/~thehivemind/RL/index.htm

Chase Web Page: http://www.chasefrank.com/
Chase's Blog: http://www.myspace.com/chasefrank

Robby

Body Worlds an Experience:

An over view: Decay is a considerable impediment to morphological studies. Therefore scientists have been searching for centuries for suitable preservation techniques. With the invention of plastination it has become possible to preserve decomposable specimen in a durable and lifelike manner for instructional, research, and demonstration purposes. During a vacuum process biological specimens are impregnated with a reactive polymer developed specifically for this technique. The class of polymer used determines the mechanical (flexible or hard) and optical (transparent or opaque) properties of the preserved specimen. Plastinated specimen are dry and odorless; they retain their natural surface relief and are identical with their state prior to preservation down to the microscopic level; even microscopic examinations are still possible. This is the reason that the Body Worlds exhibit created by Guntur von Hagens is such an eye opening and fascinating exhibit. I would recommend this exhibit to anyone who is interested in our inner selves.

The day begins: We arrived at Exposition park to find that the exhibit had yet to open but the McDonalds was open. So being hungry and needing that early morning dose of hot caffeine Mike Brady and I decided to dine with the Ronald for breakfast. Alas, all I got was a cup of coffee because this particular franchise doesn’t serve breakfast. Well, lunch shouldn’t be to far away. So, having downed my liquid energy we wandered about Exposisition Park and to enjoy the various museums that it has to offer.

The Imax film: The Imax film that we watched was titled “The Human Body”, a film created by the BBC. The film left much to be desired. It was interesting in parts, but I found the overall experience to be lacking in actual “facts” It was a very fun film to watch, but from a learning experience it was redundant and unimpressive.

Body Worlds: In a word, WOW! It was amazing to see exactly how intricate the internal systems of the body really are. To see up close individual nerves, blood vessels, muscles, etc. really hit home that I will one day be assisting and right in the middle of viscera. To see a polycystic kidney and realize how much bigger and diseased it is. To see a pair of testicles hanging by their spermatic chords that disappear into the abdomen was not anything I could grasp from textbooks and lectures. It took an actual 3-D modal that I could walk around and get within scant centimeters of. It was a worthwhile and amazing experience.

Phobos Entertainment's "100 Science Fiction Books You Just Have to Read"

Hey Gang:

Now I consider myself a Sci/Fi buff... Well, that's what just happened to me.

So, what I was trying to say was:

Saw the Lost Skeleton of Cadavra last night... WoW! It's a spoof/homage to all the great and not so great B->Z films of the 50s.

Here's the
Official Website

It is hilariously funny. The first time Animala says "Rowr!" We were crying!

Now, how often do you go thru the wide open spaces that I like to call the internet and find something cool and go to look for it later and you forgot to bookmark it? Well, it happens to me all the time.

See, I saw this website that had cool stencils for free downloads. It was Ash from Army of Darkness, Bruce Lee and the Karate Kid.

So, a few days after that I see one of the stencils on the side of a Phone Company Wire Locker:

Close Up:

So, driving by it I'm thinking: Cool, I'll email that dude and tell him where his stencil has turned up.

Couple days later, I take the above pictures.

Couple days later, I go to post the info to the website... Now what was that URL? I can not find it for the life of me... Google does no good, I'm sunk.

So if you know what website that came from... Help my poor short term memory skills out... Please.

<Photos taken corner of Willow and Palo Verde, Long Beach, CA>

More from Corvus Fallere:

This is what I do... That's Martin Luther King Jr. / Charles R. Drew Medical Facility in Los Angeles. MLK is a County Facility that is more than likely where I'll be going to be doing my externship. We went into a few O.R.s and saw several surgeries. Now this is the first time that I've been near a surgery. Other than my vasectomy, but that doesn't really count, I couldn't see the blood and stuff. But this was live and in person. I was (at points) about 18 inches from the patient. Being not sterile I can't get any closer with out contaminating the area. I could see them cut the arm, I smelled the flesh being cauterized, (similar to the smell of burning hair), watched them pull a mass about the size of two large walnuts out of the patients arm. It was amazing. I wish I could have stayed longer and maybe helped out some. My time will come, my externship will start at the end of September begining of October. Before today thought I had my doubts. I wasn't sure if I could have handled the idea of cutting up humans. I don't like to watch surgeries on T.V. I'm not into slasher movies. Blood isn't my thing. After today though. Man oh man. If I was a single dude. I'd be volunteering at any hospital that would have me. Just so I could get to know everybody and get my foot in the door.

If your at all interested in seeing some really good videos about surgeries, I highly recommend this website: OR Live.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://raibeart.blogspot.com/2004/07/importance-of-real-world-experience.html' title='The Importance of Real World Experience. To find out where it's playing click here.

Now for those of you unfamiliar with Donnie Darko it's a very cool movie that got kinda slammed due to it's October 2001 release date. No one wanted to do anything after 9/11. But has since gotten quite a cult following in the years since.

To quote the IMDB: "During the presidential election of 1988, a teenager named Donnie Darko sleepwalks out of his house one night, and sees a giant, demonic-looking rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. He returns home the next morning to find that a jet engine has crashed through his bedroom. As he tries to figure out why he survived and tries to deal with people in his town, like the school bully, his conservative health teacher, and a self-help guru, Frank continues to turn up in Donnie's mind, causing him to commit acts of vandalism and worse."

Now I first saw this film when Todd, "Hi I'm Todd", a friend of a friend was staying at my place and brought it out as the evenings entertainment. I was really impressed with how good this movie that I've never heard of was. That was last October, October 3rd to be exact. The only reason I remember it was due to the fact that the movie starts on 10/3/1988. It is seriously due a nice box office and I'm very happy to see it re-released.

Now on to why I'm bringing this all up.

Couple weeks ago I helped a friend move from a huge Shop/Work Space/Office into a tiny storage unit. Since he had so much stuff and not a lot of space to move it into he was very susceptible to my weasely efforts on getting him to part with a Pseudo Anvil type case that I'm now using to store all of my Bass accoutrements: effects pedels, cables, batteries etc. Well seeing how I hate to find out that my equipment has walked off without my knowing it. So I decided to personalize it. Looking on the internet I found some cool pumpkin stencil sites. Well, my attache case would be even easier than a pumpkin to decorate and decided on this:

What do you think?

Long Time No Blog...

I suck, I freely admit it. Seems I've been neglecting the teeming masses whom read the wonderful piece of literature I call the Wanker blog. You'd be surprised how quietly a whole village of townsfolk with pitchforks and torches can sneak into a 20X16 foot bedroom. To say the least I was surprised.

What's the haps you say? Well, I've decided to unlurk and sign up to be a Mad Lab Rabbit for Looney Labs, they are a great independent gaming company that makes great games like:

Fluxx, a game about living in the now. I need some adult time.

Had a micro ammount of adult time. Went out to dinner with a bunch of Faire friends and that was fun. Fried Pickle Party! I highly recommend having deep fried pickles at least once in your life. In fact, pretty much anyhing dipped in batter or put on a stick is yummy to me.

Someday I want to open my own restaurant: Shish-Ka-Robby's. How can you not like a company who's philosophy is:

Cheapass Games: We Make the Rules.
We here at Cheapass Games are aware of two basic facts about games: they cost too much, and they are at some level all the same.

If you ignore the clever shapes they come in, the cheap little plastic pawns are an interchangeable part of most of the board games in your house. So are the dice, the money, the counters, the pencils, and just about every other random spare part. These generic bits and pieces can account for as much as 75% of a game's production cost, and that cost gets handed to you.

If you had your choice, you'd probably invest a little bit of money in one good set of gaming paraphernalia instead of twenty crappy ones, and then just buy the new part of every "new" game. Yet most companies insist on selling you the whole package every time; it's like bundling a can opener with a can of beans.

Cheapass Games come with the bare essentials: boards, cards, and rulebooks. If you need anything else, we'll tell you. And it's probably something you can scrounge from a game you already own, or buy at a hobby store for less than "they" are charging you for it. Heck, if you need to, you can even buy the parts from us.

And once you've assembled your collection of generic small parts, you can use them for every new Cheapass Game. We've standardized our designs so your gaming toolbox will last. If that sounds pretty good, page through our website and check out all the cool things Cheapass Games has to offer you.

New...

Well, I'm embarrassed; my wife did something technically savvy before I did.
